Do You Remenber Rock’n’Roll Radio?

And the vegetarian cannibals are now in the radio waves (figure of speech. Today, everything is digital). Every Monday from 22:30 to 00:00 you can hear "The Hour of the Cannibal." Just click: www.novaradioweb.com.br and give it a try.

The set list of the first program shows that it will have rock'n'roll for all tastes. Yes, because these days to say you likes rock is very vague, given the diversity of music that is "fit" in this terminology.

The "Hour (and a half) of the Cannibal” had relics, news, rarities, underground bands, Brazilians and foreigners. And the cannibals promised to transform the program into pod cast soon!

Towards the end of "The Hour of the Cannibal," before closing with "Nearly Lost You" from Screaming Trees, they played "I Feel So Good" by The Raindrops!

If it was already nice to know about guys wanting a copy of the Raindrops EP, is a personal satisfaction that precisely this music has been chosen to be played in "The Hour of the Cannibal." Because of the five or six that make up the EP, this is the only written by me (Although now I have some problems with those vocals. But this is one of my first musical recordings and already has more than ten years!). And the other ones, from André (Biaggio. One time I have to write a post just to get to address the "Andrés." There are at least four! And it gets worse, at least three of us are "André Luis." But I assure you that this is not a case of Schizophrenia, we are many. Almost a legion) are also very good.

Synchronicity II

For more skeptical and rational that I try to be, it is difficult to ignore certain synchronicities. So before talking about the Halloween party, I will open a parenthesis.

The subject of the previous post was the ghosts from the past. And, believe it or not, another one returns! Hugo, from Zhen Brasil! Now imagine that, after about ten years, he is living just one hour away! What are the chances that this happens? I mean, the world must be really small!

But then, enter the rational and says: "he is also japanese descendent, which increases the chances of him being in Japan."

But at this close?

"Remember that many Brazilians, especially from São Paulo, arrive just in this region."

So this means that everything is just a coincidence?

"Absolutely."

But then, how to explain that exactly when I published the last post (whose subject was exactly ghosts from the past) I received an email from Hugo? "..."

There’s things that reason can not explain ...

Halloween Parade

On Halloween’s night the portals between the world of the living and the dead can be opened and the spirits walk on earth. As might be expected, the week preceding the festival was marked by the return of some “ghosts” from the past.

Ivan, a former student, friend and former owner of "Wayne Stock" appeared on Orkut with a very nice fanzine, "Canibal Vegetariano” (Vegetarian Cannibal). Take a look: www.canibalvegetariano77.blogspot.com

Conversation come and go, and he asked about the first "Raindrops" ’s EP. Actually, He asked if he could put this work online, because many people keep asking him to borrow his copy of it.

Then I contact André (not me, the singer and guitarist of "Raindrops." Not that I do not talk to myself sometimes, but I am not doing this by Orkut yet). He gave the okay and soon you’ll can download these songs at "Canibal Vegetariano". Until that happens, take a look at André’s current band: www.myspace.com/superdriveband

Those were two ghosts from the past! But others will show up before the witches leave in flight.

The first one was Reginaldo, a tormented ghost from "Les Fleurs du Mal", which left some comments on this blog. But he still frighten me with some frequency, then it does not count as a return.

Then it was Fabio from "Zhen Brazil," with whom I did not speak for several years.

So it was only lacking that someone from "Authopsia" make contact. Because even Tomo make contact thru Kit!

Ah! Immediately following Halloween we have Kit’s birthday and a party in Nagoya, with the presence of the most horrific nightmares of Halloween. More details in the next post.

Words

As John Lennon once said, "words are flowing out like endless rain ..." The songs began to take shape.

The prophecies are realized. You, my friends who follow this modest blog, probably should remember how the arrival of the books form Mateus at the beginning of the composition process appears to be a signal, a form of blessing. So, exactly from that book one of the lyrics was originated. Eventually becoming a partnership!

In the last post I mentioned "Boyblue & Rainbow Girl." This lyric, although not yet completed, has already acquired importance. It is totally autobiographical and tells our history (mine and Pollyanna´s).

And now we have "Set Me Free"! That makes me want to go out dancing every time I listen to it.

This brings us to another issue. Kit, we want to hear these songs! People keeps wondering how they are and asking to hear them. At Orkut, by mail, personally. The big question is: how they are?

Well… For those who know me from "Authopsia" I must say that they pass miles away from Trash Metal and similars. To those who remember "Raindrops", they have a hint of that Power Pop Bubblegum. For "Zhen Brazil"´s fans there´s a song that somehow has a connection. For the orphans of "Les Fleurs du Mal", they have that depressing "Alternative Rock" charm. Not forgetting, of course, that mentality of "playing whatever you like to". But the news are a slighted touch to danceable music. Probably acquired during the passage through the "Tomo Shagger and his Marmites."

Birthday

Things go slowly. I mean, in relation to the composition and production of the album. For all the rest, a whirl is coming. But let’s start calmly ...

The initial experience with Nanako’s voice served as inspiration and now we have a song almost finished. The instrumental part is ready, the sequence is practically defined, the solo needs a few touches, the lyrics lacks a few more verses and we need to record vocals. The amazing is that this was a song that already had melody and lyrics. But we record only the basic structure, which I’m not very pleased. But I wanted Nanako to hear the raw music. I do not tell her anything about the melody and lyrics that existed and let her “trip”. The melody that she has really transformed the music, and helped defines the arrangement. Thus, "Sacrifice Her" turned into "Boyblue & Rainbow Girl"! And it makes few weeks that I can not take the music out of my head! And there’s a bonus. All this adventure reminds me of those stories about how "Yesterday" was called "scrambled eggs".

Meanwhile, in the real world ... The uncertainties and doubts returned. Pollyanna and I are unsure about Japan. Everything is so hard. It is the crisis! The money barely makes to pay the debts and keep the house. And the shadow of unemployment hovers on the Brazilian community ...

A few weeks passed, we had our first experience in a studio. Kit and I went to ALA, Kani’s Cultural Center. I should have taken some photos. It is a cultural complex for public use of any citizen. There are two theaters, three music studios, a mixing room, several spaces for events, Internet access, workshops, carpentry and others. And it was in studio 3 that we hear the songs loud and clear! It’s not because I’m the father of the child, but these songs are good. In that day we basically tested the equipment of the studio. But that gave us a desire to play live. We do not discard this idea.

Back in the real world ... The next day was my birthday and we gathered with our friends at a Brazilian restaurant that opened close to my home. On the international part of our group are kit, Dareen and Fushimi. And our gang in Japan: Marcão, Elisa, Sandro, Kátia, Ricardo, Lu, Gustavo, Eve, Ana, Cristiano, me and Pollyana (I hope I have not forgotten anyone). Of course that I missed all of you (and you know who you are). But I will cite only those who sent congratulations and I had no time to reply: Andre, Andrei, Michele, Zeza, Reginaldo, Cassiano, Pamela (by the way, thanks for all the women coming out of cakes and so, Pollyanna doesn’t like that too much), Adriana. That day was launched a challenge involving feijoadas, banana pizzas and horseback riding. More on the topic in the near future. The strange thing is that the astral hell came late this year. The previous month was very quiet, but on the day after my anniversary the car broke, the crisis worsened, came the stresses and outbreaks. But that’s life.

Rainy Day Woman # 12 & 35

And on a rainy Sunday we meet Nanako. We've made some pizza and talked a little.

Nanako is small and outgoing, very friendly, and Pollyanna loved her. She also loved her name. Nanako, loved the pizzas, and we won the title of best pizza in Japan. Modesty aside, it is deserved. And we are also spreading the banana pizza. Everyone is surprised and love it

Nanako speak English very well and lived in America for some time.

We talk about the bands we like and, for you who are curious about the Japanese bands here are two suggestions by Nanako: "Go! Go! 7188 "and" Southern All-Stars ". I already knew them. The "Southern All-Stars" is a band that is already on the road for some time. As soon as I came to Japan I saw a special about them on TV. The coolest is that they play different styles. "Go! Go! 7188 "is a punk trio with two girls and one boy.

Then we made our first experience. Nanako recorded some melodies. Everything went well. And for a first day of work the result was good.

Now each will develop their ideas and within a few weeks we will meet again.

On that weekend we started to work on some of Kit’s songs too.

With this vocal stimulus, things that were stagnant started to walk again. The biggest problem now is time.

Another source of inspiration is the new Brian Wilson CD: "Lucky Old Sun."; released this month. It was on the third hearing that I notice how good it is! It has a bit of the experimental sound from "SMILE", a bit of the Pop from "Imagination", the structure recalls "Mt Vernon and Fairway (A Fairy Tale)” and it even slide on literary ground thanks to Van Dyke Parks’s poetry.
